It’s been a great month for interesting sightings here at Entabeni Safari Conservancy. Firstly, we saw a whopping 24 Cape Vultures on the plains just west of the Main Gate recently. They were feeding off a wildebeest carcass. They were still there the following day, at which point it was estimated there were about 30 vultures feeding. This is great news as we dont see a lot of vultures down on the lower escarpment.
The news youll all be really excited to hear – as we were – is that one of our lionesses has given birth to cubs. Its the same lioness who gave birth to our last set of cubs on the reserve. At this stage we dont know how many cubs there are – she was just spotted with one of the babies at which point we closed down that area of the reserve to give them some privacy and her an opportunity to be a good mum again to her offspring. Well keep you updated on how they progress.
Finally, a Secretary Bird has taken up residence on the reserve. Shes busy nesting so, although weve only seen the one bird at this stage, chances are shes not alone. This is a really wonderful sighting as Secretary Birds are quite rare but very interesting. This is the first one seen in the past two and a half years.
